bonbons and coffee

Hello lovely people! It’s the end of July! Can you believe it? Some students here in Tenn. go back to school this week! Wow! I have had fun this summer going to the local pool with my girls (because you know I need somewhere for these four girls five years and under to run around in a day so they can sleep well at night) and staying up a little later than usual. I agree with them that it is difficult to go to sleep with the sun still out! Iced coffee has been a great staple and popsicles for all! We have the silicone ring pop molds I just pour juice into, freeze, and voila! So fun!

Since it is the end of the month, I want to share something new I am loving. It is clearly important what we surround ourselves with, what we watch, and what we listen to. It affects what we think about, and how we view our circumstances and the world.

When I was younger, during school and summers, my mom made us have “quiet time.” Hated it. Taking a break from fun to be quiet in my room was not my idea of a great time. I was able to listen to the radio, and during the afternoons, Focus on the Family broadcast came on. Although I was only in elementary school and middle school at the time, it was interesting to me. Not every broadcast was directly related to me, it was still meaningful and spoke God’s Word. Later on, I was able to understand more and could refer to messages I heard then to the life I lived later on.

I have used Focus on the Family and Dr. Dobson’s books for counseling in many ways, but I have recently rediscovered Focus on the Family through their app. It’s called the Focus Broadcast and I love it. I don’t own a radio in the house, so I have not been able to hear the radio broadcasts in years! I have been wanting to hear messages that are Biblical throughout the week, but I don’t often have a chance to sit down, eat bonbons, and drink my coffee while I kick my feet up and listen…Man! I have found it helpful each morning to prop my phone up while I wash my face, brush my teeth, and get ready first thing each morning. I love that it even reminds me that there is a new podcast available each day! Win! After my own personal quiet time (somedays more quiet than others), I can learn from these podcasts, and set a positive tone for the day. I can tell that my mindset is more focused on the spiritual side of life when I am consistent in surrounding myself with stuff like these podcasts that focus my attention on Jesus and how He affects everyday life. It’s also great that these podcasts are for everyone of every age, and all stages in life!

Mark 4:24

Then he added, “Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given —and you will receive even more.

How do you grow in Christ during your week? What have you found that helps you focus on Jesus through classes, work, sports, school, hauling littles around, and relaxing? As always, I would love to hear from you! Have a beautiful week!

Love, Charis
